Dog's Pregnancy Cycle

The gestation period of a dog is about 63 days. Different dogs have different physical conditions, so the length of pregnancy may vary, but the difference won't be many days. The first stage is from day 1 to day 30. Within one to two weeks after conception, the mother dog should avoid vigorous exercise. The second stage is from day 30 to day 45, during which the embryos in the mother dog's abdomen gradually grow. The third stage is from day 45 to day 60, when you can visibly see the mother dog's belly becoming swollen, indicating that she is about to give birth.

Caring for dogs in different stages of pregnancy:

First stage: from day 1 to day 30, the mother dog who has just conceived should avoid vigorous exercise to prevent miscarriage! Just maintain the usual feeding level for the mother dog, without adding too much meat, eggs, nutrients, or increasing the amount of food. This is because the embryos grow slowly and are very small. If you feed the mother dog too much, all the nutrients will be absorbed by her, which is equivalent to making her obese! Being overweight and not exercising enough can easily lead to difficulty in giving birth.

Second stage: from day 30 to day 45, the embryos in the mother dog's abdomen start to grow. The most direct change you can feel is that the mother dog urinates more frequently. If you used to walk your dog once in the morning and once in the evening, you should now add one or two more walks per day to increase the amount of exercise and keep the mother dog healthy. Increase the nutrition appropriately, such as meat, eggs, yogurt, etc. But the amount should be small. If the fetuses absorb too much nutrition and grow too fast, it can also lead to difficulty in giving birth.

Third stage: from day 45 to day 60, you can clearly see the mother dog's belly becoming swollen! In the last few days, you can feel the fetuses rolling inside her belly! Ensure that the mother dog gets a certain amount of exercise. If she can't run, take her for more walks. At this stage, the mother dog is always hungry, but you need to control the amount of food. Feeding too much will harm her! The most important thing is to control the diet properly and maintain exercise.
